Description
Sicuani is a small farming community of 300 people on the Andean plateau, 3 hours from Cusco Peru, the capital of the ancient Incan Empire.
Alpacas are native to this area where the average herd is about 100. The average family income in this area is approx $600 per year and 60% of this is derived from the sale of alpaca meat, and 40% from the sale of fleece and fibre.
In an initiative to boost the income & standard of living, these teddies are made by hand from the fleece, by the farmers and their families. After the hide is tanned and cleaned , each teddy takes about 1 day to stitch and assemble.
